Crane Hunts

The
sandhill crane hunting in the Texas panhandle can be some of the best around.
Our crane hunting depends on our water situation. If we have water the crane
will be here. If we do not have water the crane will be harder to find.
During good years we
normally come home with full limits and plenty of empty shells.
We usually hunt about
thirty minutes south of Lubbock. Because of
the distance we have to drive to hunt these birds we will have to set up the
decoys when we get there. We use between thirty and fifty homemade, hunt proven,
decoys. We use ghillie blankets or some kind of natural cover as camouflage. You are allowed to use lead
shot during these hunts. However if you bring lead shot you can not shoot any
bonus geese that may fly by.
Due to the water situation of the Texas Panhandle,
we ask that you give us a call at least a week or two before your
hunt to make sure the crane are here. If we do not have huntable
numbers of crane or if they are just not here yet we will either
refund your deposit or reschedule you for a later date.
These big birds are hard to bring down but it can
be done. When you have these huge birds coming in, this type of hunt
is probably one of the most exciting that we have to offer.
